Dynamic monitoring of epoxy reactions and modulus evaluation by a multispectral approach

Abstract

The regulation of the forming process of carbon fiber composite materials from liquid to solid is crucial for the ultimate mechanical properties of composite materials. By combining broadband ultrasonic spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, the modulus, composite network structure, and curing rate were proposed at different temperatures and with different polymer components. Besides, a facile method for determining time related velocities and frequency-dependent attenuation spectroscopy was developed to track epoxy processes based on ultrasonic spectra analysis. This approach can be widely applied to studying dynamic chemical processes and mechanical properties to obtain insights into developing composite materials.
