Strategy for functionalization of electrodes with discrete, unmodified small molecules exhibiting aqueous stability

Abstract

The electrochemical and solution stability of discrete molecules trapped in silica-based films on glassy carbon electrodes in aqueous solution was investigated. The films exhibit stability over a wide range of pH values and importantly are created via a simple mixture of commericially available sillanes and the electroactive complexes without a need to synthetically modify the target molecules.
