Latest progress in proton-conducting hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks

Abstract

In recent years, the rapid development of the investigation of hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (HOFs) has provided a strong material basis for obtaining more functional materials with multiple applications (e.g., catalysis, gas adsorption and separation, and optoelectronic technology). In the fields of energy and materials chemistry, HOFs are attracting more and more attention in proton conduction owing to their naturally existing H-bonding system and designability. Herein, the latest research results of proton-conductive HOFs in terms of their preparation, structural characteristics, proton conductivity, and proton-conducting mechanism are summarized. Finally, an outlook on the future trends and design ideas for this promising class of crystalline conducting materials is provided as well.
