Decarboxylative reactions with and without light – a comparison

Abstract

Carboxylic acids have gained more and more importance as versatile and renewable starting materials for the formation of platform molecules or high-value chemicals. Many decarboxylative reactions using metal- or photoredox catalysis have been reported during the last few years. In this review, we give a general overview of decarboxylative reactions; we compare different approaches for similar reactions and examine their advantages and disadvantages.
