Synthesis of silver nanoparticles coupled with aromatic diselenides: greener approach, potential against glioma cells and DNA interaction

Abstract

This work reports the direct synthesis of organochalcogen-modified silver nanoparticles (A1-7), their cytotoxic potentials against glioma cells (C6) and their interaction with DNA. The influence of the presence of electron-withdrawing and donating groups on the structures of the diselenide were evaluated. MTT data suggest that A3 and A6 reduced C6 cell viability via an addictive effect of the organochalcogen and silver and that the A7 activity had been only attributed to the silver component of the nanoparticle. A3, A6 and A7 showed interaction with DNA by intercalation and, at higher concentrations, a groove binding prevalence was observed.
