Treatment of the silyl/methylene complex [Ru2(η5-C5Me5)2(µ-CH2)(SiMe3)Cl] with acetylene gives the first unsubstituted metallabenzene complex [Ru2(η5-C5Me5)2(η2,η5-C5H5)(SiMe3)], which has been characterised by NMR spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography.
