Curving deformation-induced photoluminescence changes and anisotropy analysis in elastic organic crystals

Abstract

Mechanical deformation-induced physical property changes of flexible molecular crystals are unique topics in materials chemistry. Here, the mechanically curving-induced photoluminescence (PL) and PL anisotropy changes in an elastic organic crystal were successfully investigated by spatially resolved μ-PL spectroscopy for the PL analysis at both the outer and inner sides. The PL characters derived from intermolecular π–π stacking and transition dipole orientations changes with respect to the elongation of the outer side of the crystals. The results suggested that the molecular packing and its directional arrangement change with the crystal deformation.
