Fabrication of Reduced Graphene Oxide Electromagnetic Shielding Films with Excellent Comprehensive Performance Using a Two-Step Reduction Strategy

Abstract

Graphene-based materials hold significant potential for electromagnetic wave shielding applications due to their excellent electrical conductivity, mechanical properties and versatility. However, the lack of an effective method to fabricate pure graphene films with outstanding comprehensive performance has hindered their practical utilization. In this work, a two-step reduction strategy combining hydroiodic acid and heat treatment is employed to prepare reduced graphene oxide (rGO) film with excellent shielding effectiveness and mechanical strength. The film achieves an average shielding effectiveness of 53.5 dB in the X-band (8.2-12.4 GHz) and shows strong stability under various environmental conditions. Additionally, it exhibites tensile strength far exceeding that of rGO films prepared by conventional high-temperature methods along with exceptional thermal insulation properties distinct from conventional graphene materials. This work provides a simple and efficient strategy for preparing rGO electromagnetic interference shielding materials with excellent comprehensive performance.
