Pore confined trimerization of terephthalonitrile in MAF-5

Abstract

The nitrile trimerization reaction of terephthalonitrile requires catalysts and temperature above 400 o C, and yields polymers. Being confined in a metal-organic framework MAF-5, the reaction temperature lowers to 240 o C without using catalysts, and the product becomes a unitary trimer.
