Heteroditopic host–guest architectures composed of pillar[5]arene–calix[4]pyrrole and alkylnitrile–carboxylate units were used to construct an ABCD type supramolecular polymer and subsequently fabricate a xerogel. The resulting system was then utilized to remove naphthols selectively from water over a variety of micropollutants.
