A scalable and biomimetic approach for TiO2 deposition: enabling water splitting by nanostructured WO3 in neutral media as an example

Abstract

We report a simple and scalable biomimetic approach for conformal surface modification of a nanostructured substrate. Conformal coating of a TiO2 layer with a thickness of 5–7 nm effectively tackles notorious chemical-instability inherent to WO3 at neutral pH. The developed approach serves as a promising alternative to the atomic layer deposition technique.
