Syntheses of nonacarbonylbis(µ3-ethoxy)(µ2-halogeno)trimanganese complexes, the crystal structures of the fluoride and iodide, and the crystal structure of octacarbonyl(dimethylphenylphosphine)bis(µ3-ethoxy)(µ2-ethoxy)trimanganese
Abstract
Nonacarbonylbis(µ3-ethoxy)(µ2-ethoxy)trimanganese reacts with all four boron trihalides to give the corresponding halogeno-complexes [Mn3(CO)9(µ3-OEt)2(µ2-X)](X = F, Cl, Br, or I). The chloro- and bromo-complexes have also been made from the anhydrous hydrogen halides. X-Ray analyses of the fluoride and iodide have shown the structure to consist of three Mn(CO)3 units in a scalene triangular cluster, with two face bridging ethoxy-groups and one edge-bridging halogeno-ligand. For comparison, we have also recorded the structure of [Mn3(CO)8(PMe2Ph)(µ3-OEt)2(µ2-OEt)].
