Stabilisation of iron-oxo dimers in a natural layered clay for efficient photocatalysts comparable to TiO2

Abstract

We report the stabilisation of otherwise fleeting iron(III)-oxo dimers in the interlayer space of a natural layered clay. The material shows a good photocatalytic activity toward the oxidation of formic acid in water and formaldehyde in air comparable to a benchmark TiO2 photocatalyst.
