Recent progress in group-III metal chalcogenide based Janus materials: from properties to potential applications

Abstract

Two-dimensional (2D) materials with unique geometrics and physicochemical properties have become the most attractive star materials in recent two decades. Since research on various 2D materials has mushroomed, Janus materials with an asymmetric surface have also rapidly developed. In particular, group-III metal chalcogenide based 2D materials have attracted widespread attention recently. In this paper, the geometry, physical properties, and potential applications of group-III metal chalcogenides and their derived Janus structures are reviewed, and future exploration options are summarized and prospected.
