Currently, there are only a few industrial and academic works focused on photopolymerization conducted under natural light.
This review mainly summarizes the current progress in photopolymerization for bio-based photoinitiators/photoinitiating systems, along with presents conditions for monomers derived from natural products.
In this study, five coumarin derivatives were developed and synthesized to serve as visible light photoinitiators for the free radical photopolymerization of acrylates upon near-UV or visible light.
Two common bio-sourced naphthoquinone derivatives, vitamin K1 (phylloquinone) and vitamin K3 (menadione), were employed in free radical photopolymerization under LED light exposure at 405 nm.
Two Ni(II)-NHC complexes were investigated as novel photocatalysts for the free radical photopolymerization of TMPETA under LED@405 nm. They showed notable photoinitiation capabilities, with the optimal conditions successfully applied in 3D printing.
