Pore-confined trimerization of terephthalonitrile in MAF-5
Abstract
The nitrile trimerization reaction of terephthalonitrile requires catalysts and a temperature above 400 °C, and yields polymers. When confined in a metal–organic framework, MAF-5, the reaction temperature lowers to 240 °C without using catalysts, and the product becomes a unitary trimer.
