H-bond-directed photocatalytic site-selective α-C–H functionalization of alcohols with p-quinone methides

Abstract

An organophotocatalyzed method for α-C–H functionalization of alcohols is reported. This anthraquinone-catalyzed reaction is supported by an H-bonding interaction between the alcohol and p-quinone methides, yielding a wide range of β-hydroxyphosphonates in good yield. Insights into the reaction mechanism are provided through control experiments.
