Single-molecule photophysics of dark quenchers as non-fluorescent FRET acceptors
The quenchers BBQ650 and BHQ-2 exhibit significant redox blinking under common single-molecule measurement conditions. Non-fluorescent FRET acceptors can further be used to convert any dye into a photoactivatable probe.

Enhanced photocatalytic hydrogen production from an MCM-41-immobilized photosensitizer–[Fe–Fe] hydrogenase mimic dyad
A covalently linked photosensitizer–[Fe–Fe] hydrogenase mimic dyad is stabilized by immobilizing it into MCM-41, giving an enhanced catalytic efficiency for hydrogen production.

Picosecond dynamics of hydrogen bond rearrangements during phase separation of a triethylamine and water mixture
A picosecond temperature jump experiment reveals that phase separation in a liquid triethylamine (TEA)–water mixture started from hydrogen bond scission of TEA–water aggregates in TEA-rich regions and then in water-rich regions.

Effect of metal nanoparticles on the photophysical behaviour of dye–silica conjugates
The controlled adsorption of gold colloids on dye-doped silica particles makes it possible to distinguish between a fluorescence enhancing and a quenching regime depending on the position of metal plasmon bands.

Excited state dynamics of the photoconvertible fluorescent protein Kaede revealed by ultrafast spectroscopy
The molecular basis of the photoconversion of Kaede was investigated by time-resolved spectroscopy, and the results suggest that a light-initiated cleavage mechanism (20 ps) takes place, forming the anionic red state.
