About this collection

We are delighted to share with you a selection of the papers which will be presented at our Faraday Discussion on Aggregation Induced Emission taking place in Guangzhou, China in November 2016. More information about the event may be found here: http://rsc.li/emission-fd2016. Additional articles will be added to the collection as they are published. The final versions of all the articles presented and record of the live discussions will be published after the event.

The discovery of aggregation-induced emission (AIE), whereby the aggregation of molecules enhances their light-emission efficiency, offers opportunities to develop practically useful luminescent materials. Diverse molecules with tuneable emission colours and high quantum yields in the solid state have been generated, which have been used in diverse applications from optics and electronics to energy and bioscience. This Faraday Discussion gives researchers the opportunity to discuss our current understanding of the AIE mechanism(s) and debate key challenges in this exciting research area.
