Ionic liquid/water mixtures: from hostility to conciliation
Water, initially a sworn enemy to analysis of pure ionic liquids (ILs), is currently an excellent partner for designing functionalised ILs.
Optically responsive switchable

Excimer-forming and solvatochromic molecular probes in a switchable ionic liquid correspondingly permit ratiometric fluorescence monitoring and naked-eye detection of CO2.
An elegant access to formation and vaporization enthalpies of
ionic liquids by indirect DSC experiment and “in silico” calculations
We used DSC for determination of the reaction enthalpy of the synthesis of the ionic liquid [C4mim][Cl].
Formic acid electro-synthesis from carbon dioxide in a room temperature ionic liquid
The novel synthesis of formic acid has been achieved in a room temperature ionic liquid via the reaction of electro-activated carbon dioxide and protons on pre-anodised platinum.
Fluorescence monitoring of
ionic liquid-facilitated biopolymer mobilization and reorganization
Confocal fluorescence monitoring of ionic liquid-facilitated biopolymer mobilization and reorganization reveals limited polymer mobility and distinct interfacial biopolymer interactions.
Direct visualization of solution morphology of cellulose in
ionic liquids by conventional TEM at room temperature
The solution morphology and dissolution process of cellulose in ILs have been characterised directly by conventional TEM at room temperature for the first time. The fresh cellulose–IL solutions are in a nonuniform state.
Phosphine oxide functionalised imidazolium ionic liquids as tuneable ligands for lanthanide complexation
A series of novel, phosphine oxide functionalised ionic liquids have been synthesised and their application as tuneable lanthanide complexing agents is demonstrated.
The formal potentials and
electrode kinetics of the proton/hydrogen couple in various room temperature ionic liquids
A quantitative study of the thermodynamics and kinetics of the Proton/Hydrogen Couple in Various Room Temperature Ionic Liquids.
ionic liquids with solids handling, enhanced thermal stability, and fast release
Biologically active ionic liquids supported on mesoporous silica provide solid handling with fast and complete release in an aqueous environment.
Ionic galleries: a bilayered host–guest cocrystal of C-propyl pyrogallolarene with an ionic liquid
We report the debut instance of a cocrystal assembled from a C-alkyl pyrogallolarene and an ionic liquid, a fascinating bilayer topology comprising two distinctive host–guest assemblies.
SAXS anti-peaks reveal the length-scales of dual positive–negative and polar–apolar ordering in room-temperature ionic liquids
Same wavenumber peaks and anti-peaks in SAXS structure functions reveal multiple length-scale alternations in Ionic Liquids.
Micellar catalysis in aqueous–ionic liquid systems
We present the application of ionic liquid–aqueous micellar solutions as reaction media for Diels–Alder reaction and found that reaction rates could be significantly increased compared to the reaction in water.
Comparing intermediate range order for
alkyl- vs. ether-substituted cations in ionic liquids
Pairs of ionic liquids that differ only by alkyl vs. isoelectronic ether substituents have very different intermediate range order.
ionic liquids to mill, suspend, and ignite boron nanoparticles
Boron nanoparticles can be dispersed through milling techniques into hypergolic ionic liquids to provide an enhancement of the ignition.
cations and anions of ionic liquids on the production of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural from fructose
Effects of aggregations and hydrogen bonds of ILs on HMF preparation are studied by experiment and simulations.
Inorganic salts in purely ionic liquid media: the development of high ionicity ionic liquids (HIILs)
New liquid and purely ionic media, composed of commonly used ionic liquids and simple inorganic salts, were developed and characterized.
Ionic liquids with metal chelate anions
Stable (air, water stable and with good thermal stability) and hydrophobic ionic liquids with metal chelate anions were synthesized with β-diketonate anions as bidentate ligands, which were shown to be effective, mild, and easy to recycle catalysts at the same time stable solvents for the oxidation of cyclohexene.
Regenerated silk fibroin using protic
ionic liquids solvents: towards an all-ionic-liquid process for producing silk with tunable properties
We report on the use of protic ionic liquids as coagulation solvents to regenerate silk fibrion, and the impact this has on the composition of the silk. Towards developing silk with highly tuneable properties.
