Active transport in a channel: stabilisation by flow or thermodynamics

Santhan Chandragiri, Amin Doostmohammadi, Julia M. Yeomans and Sumesh P. Thampi
Soft Matter, 2019,15, 1597-1604

Abstract

How do different mechanisms of nematic ordering affect the active fluid flows in a channel?

Dancing disclinations in confined active nematics

Tyler N. Shendruk, Amin Doostmohammadi, Kristian Thijssen and Julia M. Yeomans
Soft Matter, 2017,13, 3853-3862

Abstract

A dynamically ordered state of dancing disclinations spontaneously emerges from active nematic fluids confined with 2D channels at intermediate activities. This state is accompanied by an ordered vortex lattice and ideally spans the entire system.

Statistical properties of autonomous flows in 2D active nematics

Linnea M. Lemma, Stephen J. DeCamp, Zhihong You, Luca Giomi and Zvonimir Dogic
Soft Matter, 2019,15, 3264-3272

Abstract

The characteristics length scale of active nematics composed of microtubules and kinesin motors is controlled by ATP concentration.

Dynamic clustering and re-dispersion in concentrated colloid-active gel composites

G. Foffano, J. S. Lintuvuori, K. Stratford, M. E. Cates and D. Marenduzzo
Soft Matter, 2019,15, 6896-6902

Abstract

We simulate the dynamics of concentrated colloidal suspensions in active gels. Activity can both aggregate particles or redisperse them.

Soft Matter, 2021, Advance Article

Abstract

Our model is unrolled to map an input orientation sequence (from time t-8 to t-1) to an output one (t,t + 1…) with trajectray tracing. Cyan labels are −1/2 defect while purple ones are +1/2.
