Defect structure and percolation in the packing of bidispersed particles on a sphere

Andrew M. Mascioli, Christopher J. Burke, Mathew Q. Giso and Timothy J. Atherton
Soft Matter, 2017,13, 7090-7097

Abstract

We study packings of bidispersed spherical particles on a sphere. As bidispersity increases, scars previously observed in monodispersed packings grow and percolate the particles' neighbor network.

Cell division and death inhibit glassy behaviour of confluent tissues

D. A. Matoz-Fernandez, Kirsten Martens, Rastko Sknepnek, J. L. Barrat and Silke Henkes
Soft Matter, 2017,13, 3205-3212

Abstract

We investigate the effects of cell division and apoptosis on collective dynamics in two-dimensional epithelial tissues and find a rich phase diagram of gas, percolated and liquid states. In particular, any level of division precludes the existence of a glassy phase.

Rupture of granular rafts: effects of particle mobility and polydispersity

Carole Planchette, Elise Lorenceau and Anne-Laure Biance
Soft Matter, 2018,14, 6419-6430

Abstract

The rupturing threshold of granular armor subjected to drop impacts for MOBILE (circles) and IMMOBILE (squares) particles.

Geometric effects in random assemblies of ellipses

Jakov Lovrić, Sara Kaliman, Wolfram Barfuss, Gerd E. Schröder-Turk and Ana-Sunčana Smith
Soft Matter, 2019,15, 8566-8577

Abstract

In this paper, we analysed the geometrical effects in ellipse assemblies over the range of packing fractions and elongations.

Contact network changes in ordered and disordered disk packings

Philip J. Tuckman, Kyle VanderWerf, Ye Yuan, Shiyun Zhang, Jerry Zhang, Mark D. Shattuck and Corey S. O’Hern
Soft Matter, 2020,16, 9443-9455

Abstract

There are two ways to transition between different contact networks, point and jump changes, as shown in a packing fraction-strain landscape.
