Educational Efforts in Green and Sustainable Chemistry from the Spanish Network in Sustainable Chemistry
Developing educational activities in the area of green and sustainable chemistry has been one of the main goals of the Spanish Network on Sustainable Chemistry (REDQS). Numerous educational activities have been carried out by the members of the REDQS in the last years, at different levels, either individually or collectively. In this regard, the integration of efforts towards designing a common interuniversity educational program at the postgraduate level in Spain has been one of the main objectives of the REDQS for more than one decade. The corresponding Master's and PhD programs in sustainable chemistry are currently implemented in several Spanish universities based on a common curriculum and a cooperative effort of the institutions and the researchers and teachers involved. This has provided a unique opportunity for many students, from different origins, to acquire a solid training in green chemistry and to achieve a distinctive educational experience. The essential components of this initiative as well as its funding key concepts are presented in this chapter. The essential elements for success are the generation of a flexible and adaptive curriculum in a changing legislative contest, a modular design of the teaching programme and a solid definition of the basic, common, contents, along with the cooperative efforts of the members of the REDQS.
