Chapter 11

Nanotube Thermometry

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have many advantages when used as nanoscale thermal probes, for example, their thin diameter, robustness, and low thermal resistance. However, there are some difficulties in both fabrication and analytical steps for CNT thermometry. In this chapter, recently developed techniques for the fabrication of CNT thermal probes and the current understanding of the thermal properties of CNTs are addressed. An example of quantitative temperature sensing at a nanoscale point contact using a CNT bonded to a Pt hot film is also explained.
