CHAPTER 11

Protein-Integrated Electronic Nanodevices and Systems

While electronic devices and biological structures where in the past not immediately connected to one another, in present day these are more and more combined. Proteins perform specific functions in all physiological or biochemical processes in vivo, offer us untapped resources to develop biological nano-electronic devices and system such as bio-optoelectronic devices, memory devices, field effect transistors, integrated electrochemical systems and fuel cells which are as against traditional chemical molecules or semiconductor creates additional choices. The naturally protein based electronic devices and system possess the potential for environment friendly and implantable electronics.
