Boronate Affinity Materials for the Selective Capture of cis-Diol-Containing Biomolecules

Boronate affinity materials, as unique chromatographic media and sorbents, have attracted increasing attention in recent years for the selective separation, purification and enrichment of cis-diol-containing biomolecules. Boronate affinity materials exhibit several significant features, including broad-spectrum selectivity, reversible covalent binding, pH-controlled capture/release and good compatibility with mass spectrometry. As many cis-diol-containing biomolecules are important target molecules in current research frontiers such as proteomics, metabolomics and glycomics, boronic acid-functionalized materials have undergone rapid development and found increasing applications in recent decades. In this chapter, we survey recent progress in work on boronate affinity materials.
