Application of Focused X-ray Beams in Radiation Biology

Radiation biology investigates the interaction of ionizing radiation with living organisms. Ionizing radiation is commonly used in cancer therapy, and radiation biology studies contribute to this technique of therapy in several ways: by explaining the nature of cancer transformation of cells, by a search for the most effective way of killing the cancerous cells and by developing methods of dosimetry in a scale starting from a single cell to the whole irradiated body organ. Dosimetry methods are needed to evaluate the necessary therapeutic doses of radiation prior to irradiation and for controlling the actual dose absorbed during the irradiation process.
