Safety and Health Practices for Working with Metallic Mercury

Symptoms of mercury poisoning are covered from the physician's point of view. Symptoms arising from both acute and chronic mercury exposure are defined. Safety practices when dealing with mercury are covered from the occupational health perspective. Mercury-related toxicity is controlled by the use of surveillance programs and preventive measures. Finally, mercury in effluent and its removal by materials such as activated carbon are briefly discussed.
