Chlor-Alkali Process

A thorough explanation of the practical and theoretical aspects of the production of chlorine, caustic soda and hydrogen, the chlor-alkali process, via mercury cell technology is given. Although the chlor-alkali process is now being replaced by other more environmentally friendly methods, many of these units exist in plants around the world. Foundations of the electrochemistry of the process, the materials in the mercury cell and the thermodynamics of the amalgams in the mercury cell are covered.
