Diffusion of Metals in Mercury

A review of the diffusivity of metals in mercury and phenomenological equations to predict the diffusivity of metal in mercury is given. Deviations from predicted behavior are discussed at length. Factors such as volumetric compression, atomic radii, liquid-phase compounds and viscosity affect the diffusion behavior of metals in mercury. Diffusion data are presented in tabular form. Equations describing the temperature dependence of diffusion in mercury are evaluated.
