Chapter 6

Preparation by Enantioselective Catalysis

This chapter deals with the methods using a catalytic amount to chiral auxiliary in the synthesis of phosphines and derivatives. The largest part of the chapter is devoted to metal-catalysed synthesis of P-stereogenic compounds. It includes sections on hydrophosphination of alkenes and alkynes, phosphination of aryl halides, alkylation of secondary phosphines, desymmetrisation of dialkynylphosphine oxides and metathesis reactions. The second part is devoted to biocatalytic routes, including kinetic resolutions and desymmetrisation of phosphine oxides and boranes.
