Characterization
Characterization of materials is a wide-ranging field that encompasses the use of a variety of highly specialized (and often expensive) instruments to perform tasks such as atomic-resolution imaging, nanoscale composition analysis, surface analysis, electron microscopy, and traditional chemical characterization. It also includes toxicity testing, which is a highly relevant aspect of all nanoparticles and nanomaterials that are used in nanomedicine or could be released into the environment.
