Constructing and Representing Understandings in Chemistry
This chapter considers the different ways that creative thinking is used to construct relationships and represent understanding in chemistry. We evaluate different representations of the Periodic Table and the use of multiple representations to develop sub-microscopic understandings. This is to illustrate how creative and critical thinking is applied in chemistry, and how this can lead to opportunities for creative thinking in the classroom. Both to support the teacher's creative ideas and the students’ response to them. In particular, it illustrates how ideas and models that become commonplace can be seen in a new light. This is often the source of a productive creative idea.
