Chapter 4

Cultural Chemistry

This chapter discusses the use of creative teaching strategies to engage with chemistry in different cultural contexts. It will use different case studies to illustrate how chemistry can be taught creatively in different contexts and connect chemistry to students’ everyday experience. This approach has the potential to engage a broader range of students in the subject. Specific museum case studies are discussed to illustrate the application of experiential learning and how objects in different cultures can be linked to the chemistry curriculum. In addition, cultural chemistry is explored inside the classroom with different examples of creative teaching.
