Assessment of Argumentation in Chemistry: A Model for Designing Items

Although recent revisions to the primary and secondary science curricular of some countries incorporated argumentation as part of the learning outcomes, there are few guidelines on the assessment of these abilities. This chapter reviews existing learning progression research on scientific argumentation and proposes a model for the design and construction of test items.
