The challenges of using Raman spectroscopy for the analysis of biological materials of significance to cultural heritage have not greatly changed over the years. These precious items still demand the non-destructive analysis that Raman spectroscopy can offer. The inherent fluorescence that accompanies the analysis of these samples can still be problematic, however, new technology continues to develop to push the boundaries of what can be achieved. This chapter is focused on the application of Raman spectroscopy to investigate human specimens and attempts to provide an update of the elegantly written chapter by Prof. Howell Edwards produced in the first volume of this book published in 2005. The author is indebted to Prof. Edwards, who has been an amazing colleague, collaborator, mentor and dear friend, and has opened the doors to the wonderful world of cultural heritage for myself and many others to explore.
