Photorefractive Polymers

Developments in this area have led to the use of inorganic materials in real time holography, but the discovery that photorefractive effects could be reproduced in certain organic polymers has been of great recent interest leading to new materials and further applications in holography. In the photorefractive effect, periodic changes are induced in the refractive index of a material by a redistribution of photo-generated charges. In polymers there are four different processes involved which will be discussed here.
