Laser diodes are numerically the most common type of laser and in this chapter we will concentrate on organic lasers. Organic lasers offer many attractions, not least of which is the ease of fabrication of laser diodes, especially if the materials are polymeric. Consequently there are distinct technical and economic advantages from having lasers made from organic materials and this is stimulating ongoing research in many centres.
