This chapter on the utilisation of the sun for the production of electrical energy has a particular emphasis on emerging technologies, such as organic photovoltaics, dye sensitised solar cells, quantum dot and perovskite cells. Developments in artificial photosynthesis and the methods for producing useful chemicals and fuels are also examined.
