Chapter 12

Colour Change and Nanoplasmonics

Nanoplasmonics is the study of the optical phenomena in the nanoscale vicinity of metal surfaces. In this chapter it is on the surfaces of metal nanoparticles where the bulk and molecular properties disappear and the entity assumes the new properties that make plasmonic nanoparticles (NPs) of such interest and use. This chapter deals with the basic properties of metal nanoparticles followed by some of the applications and the derived technology.
