Solvatochromism

Solvatochromism can be defined as the phenomenon whereby a compound changes colour, either by a change in its absorption or emission spectra, when dissolved in different solvents. This chapter will deal extensively with the practical applications that since the 1990s have been growing such as in optical probes and sensors.
