Cellulose Based Aerogels: Processing and Morphology
Given their outstanding properties, cellulose-based hierarchically structured porous materials have attracted considerable attention over the last decade. The purification, dissolution, regeneration, and nano-building block assembly and modification of native/recycled cellulose influence the morphology and surface area of cellulose-based aerogels. This chapter reviews recent progress in the area of cellulose nano-building blocks from terrestrial plants and many aquatic species. Focus is given to the relationship between the chemical and physical processes and porous structures. Examples of each type of processing to achieve hierarchically structured materials are discussed.
