Chapter 2

Fluctuating Hydrodynamics and Fluctuation–Dissipation Theorem in Equilibrium Systems

Non-equilibrium thermodynamics is not only a theory of transport, fluxes and associated thermodynamic forces, but also yields a theory of thermodynamic fluctuations. In this chapter we present a brief summary of fluctuating hydrodynamics, which is the extension of linear non-equilibrium thermodynamics to deal with thermal fluctuation phenomena. At the core of fluctuating hydrodynamics is the fluctuation–dissipation theorem.
