Synthesis of unsymmetrical thiosulfonates via ring-opening reaction of cyclic sulfonium salts with sodium thiosulfonates

Abstract

This study delineates a facile and versatile methodology for the ring cleavage of alkenyl/aryl sulfonium salts employing sodium thiosulfonates, enabling the synthesis of diverse organic thiosulfonate derivatives. The protocol demonstrates notable advantages, including benign reaction conditions, readily available substrates and operational simplicity. Scaled-up experiments and multifaceted late-stage functionalization further highlight the synthetic application of this method in organic chemistry.
