Size-Tunable Hemoglobin Oxygen Carriers with Antioxidant and Pro-Angiogenic Functions for Wound Healing

Abstract

Size-tunable hemoglobin-based oxygen carriers (Hb-Oxy) were synthesized via a template-assisted strategy and functionalized with caffeic acid (CA). The optimized Hb-CA building blocks exhibit an ideal P50 (35.84 mmHg) and >99% radical scavenging efficiency. Both micro-sized (L-Hb-CA) and nano-sized (S-Hb-CA) carriers constructed from these blocks retain excellent subunit cooperativity (Hill coefficient ~2.66), synergistically promoting wound healing (>97% closure in 10 days) by mitigating hypoxia and inflammation.
