Unlocking Value from Waste: Peroxymonosulfate Oxidation for the Valorization of Precious Metals into High-Value Products

Abstract

A sustainable potassium peroxymonosulfate (PMS)/Cl- system enables rapid, catalyst-free gold dissolution under ambient conditions, achieving 98.4% Au oxidation to [AuCl4]- within 15 min. Chloride-activated singlet oxygen (1O2) drives efficient precious metal recycling, allowing high-purity KAuCl4 recovery from electronic waste and extending to palladium extraction.
