Strain-boosted electrocatalytic activity for oxygen evolution in RuO2 epitaxial thin films

Abstract

We demonstrate that applying large a-axis strains of up to 5.2% dramatically enhances the catalytic activity of RuO2 (100) epitaxial thin films for the oxygen evolution reaction. A transition in the catalytic reaction mechanism by the c-axis compression was proposed based on synchrotron X-ray fluorescence holography.
