Rapid Catalyst-Free Synthesis of α-Selenomethyl Ketones from Sulfoxonium Ylides and Selenols †

Abstract

A rapid and catalyst-free synthesis of α-arylselenomethyl ketones has been developed via the direct coupling of sulfoxonium ylides with benzeneselenol. This metal-free protocol operates under mild conditions, exhibits excellent functional group tolerance, and provides efficient access to antifungal organoselenium compounds. Mechanistic investigations, supported by deuterium-labeling and radical-trapping experiments, have delineated a clear reaction pathway, highlighting the green and sustainable nature of this transformation.
