Aldehyde-stabilised alkoxyaluminium dication
Abstract
Synthesis, structure and Lewis acidic reactivity of a perfluoro-tert-butoxyaluminium dication stabilised by five aldehyde ligands [{(F3C)3CO}Al{4-MePhCHO}5]2+, and charge-balanced by two [Al{OC(CF3)3}4]- anions is presented here. Treating the dication with Et3SiH results in deoxygenative elimination of the coordinated aldehydes, thereby unveiling a highly reactive aluminium centre that can promote alkene hydrosilylation instantaneously.
