Importance of the 3’-phosphate group of acetyl-coenzyme A for efficient histone lysine acetyltransferase catalysis

Abstract

Acetyl-coenzyme A is a universal coenzyme involved in diverse biochemical reactions, including histone acetylation catalysed by histone lysine acetyltransferases. Combined enzyme assays and molecular dynamics simulations demonstrate that the 3’-phosphate group of acetyl-coenzyme A is important, but not essential, for productive histone lysine acetyltransferase catalysis.
